Odoo ERP for Manufacturing

Bills of materials, work orders, and shop floor tracking in one system, not a spreadsheet running next to the software.

Where It Breaks Down

account_tree

Disconnected BOMs

Bills of materials live in spreadsheets or a separate PLM tool, drifting out of sync with what's actually purchased and produced.

Work Orders on Paper

Shop floor work orders get printed and tracked by hand, so what's really happening on the floor never makes it back into the system in real time.

history

Costing After the Fact

Real production costs surface weeks later at close, instead of while a job is still being run and something can still be done about it.

How Odoo Fits

Four apps, sharing one data model, cover most of what a manufacturing operation actually runs on day to day.

precision_manufacturing

Manufacturing

Multi-level bills of materials, routings, and work orders tracked directly against real inventory as they happen on the floor.

sync_alt

Inventory

Raw materials and finished goods tracked in real time, tied to every work order, purchase, and sales order that touches them.

fact_check

Quality

Quality checkpoints built directly into work orders, so inspection is part of the process instead of a paper checklist on the side.

payments

Purchase

Vendor bills and reorder points triggered automatically from production schedules and stock levels, not a manual review.

Common Questions

Can Odoo handle multi-level bills of materials?

Yes. Odoo supports BOMs with unlimited sub-assemblies, so a finished product built from other manufactured components is tracked accurately at every level.

Does this replace our shop floor MES system?

Sometimes. Odoo's Manufacturing app covers work orders, routings, and time tracking well enough to replace a standalone MES for most small and mid-size shops. For highly specialized floor equipment, we integrate rather than replace.

Can it handle both make-to-stock and make-to-order?

Yes, and mixed environments where some products are stocked and others are built against a specific sales order are common. Odoo tracks both without separate systems.

What about serial and lot tracking?

Built in. Components and finished goods can be tracked by lot or serial number all the way from receiving through production to the customer.
